See, our current setup didn't have room for a hood microwave. It had a standard hood at a good height, but putting in a microwave would have made it rather awkward to get to anything on the back burner of the stove.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7QFR8crZOjBovUI4ZzXix60QkHPYfP66cYQ18MV_YKAXSO9GXAmvYAnS7mnbknggE2Qt1_qainASkpEsxiiWIGtg-ni6dzch_wZQY49HChd09as1uRNQ7E-Y2kbNuOLcblzB8JX1N_kWL/s1600/IMG_0292.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7QFR8crZOjBovUI4ZzXix60QkHPYfP66cYQ18MV_YKAXSO9GXAmvYAnS7mnbknggE2Qt1_qainASkpEsxiiWIGtg-ni6dzch_wZQY49HChd09as1uRNQ7E-Y2kbNuOLcblzB8JX1N_kWL/s400/IMG_0292.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So in order to make it fit that cabinet over the hood had to go. Luckily the venting to the outside was way at the top of it so we had room to work. I figured if <a href="http://www.younghouselove.com/2011/12/the-doors/" target="_blank">John could retrofit some cabinet doors,</a> so could Clint. <br />
<br />
First step, demo.<br />
<br />
The worst part was removing the tile back splash. It went up so far that we had to remove a couple rows to get the microwave flush against that wall. <br />
You know how on all the home improvement shows, they just tap the sides of the tile and they all pop out? Well holy mother that did not happen for us. That tile was stuck on their for the long haul. I ended up having to just rip out the cement board it was attached to. Not fun.<br />
<br />
We also removed the doors and bottom of the cabinet and we were on the way.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA2X3QqXYrw7JPWWmNsYUSMRCJaq75ubEvCowuwkDbe-FtTTmF82sT13l9uf4bVO9q9YwUQfdpmVT4ptbZkI0VczMriQfPrvAfut6ofwGyUw6ugnHiSCQRCoMKMr4nDDOJFmgwV1ERFtq-/s1600/IMG_0342.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA2X3QqXYrw7JPWWmNsYUSMRCJaq75ubEvCowuwkDbe-FtTTmF82sT13l9uf4bVO9q9YwUQfdpmVT4ptbZkI0VczMriQfPrvAfut6ofwGyUw6ugnHiSCQRCoMKMr4nDDOJFmgwV1ERFtq-/s400/IMG_0342.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Poor Clint was up until 4am installing a new piece of drywall and a new bottom for the cabinet. That boy won't give up until he's done. He was so proud he even took a picture (even though I would wake up and see it 3 hours later.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A new electrical outlet and some wall brackets later, the microwave was in! (Clint just loves the way I take hours and hours of frustrating work and condense it into one sentence, lol)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just like John did, Clint was able to cut out a chunk of the doors to shrink them down for re mounting. Now you would never know it wasn't originally built this way!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
FUN FACT: I forgot to take pictures of the completed doors before we started on the next big kitchen project. So, I can't show a completed picture with the new doors. Oopsie! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's cool, I will write up the post(s) about the next project and get those up for the entire kitchen reveal!</div>

We always knew we wanted to, but were waiting for the fateful day when the beast of a microwave/toaster combo we have nuked its last meal. <br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I bought that thing right after I moved into my first place. It was my pride and joy.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
So, since my idols <a href="http://www.younghouselove.com/" target="_blank">John & Sherry</a> always talk about how amazing the Habitat for Humanity ReStore is, I had been itching to go and check ours out. One day on a random errand/shopping trip we decided to stop by. It wasn't looking to hot. A lot of doors and old junk. I was feeling rather bummed about it until I hear the Mr calling my name from across the warehouse.<br />
<br />
Side note here: Clint is an amazing shopper. Maybe I just go too fast or can't focus well enough, but he can always seem to find the most awesome things hidden behind something or tucked into a corner of a shelf that I had just looked right over. Yay for that.<br />
<br />
Anywho, I walk over and low and behold there he is standing in front of a black hood microwave. We prefer black appliances over stainless. I was skeptical but excited. We looked it all over, busted out our phones to look up the model and dragged over an extension cord to test it out. It seemed far to good to be true. I figure its gonna be crazy expensive. The new ones were listed for $800, I was sure I was gonna be giving him the big Hell No. <br />
<br />
Clint covers the price tag with his hand and tells me to guess. I was being optimistic and said $250. He smiles and moves his hand.<br />
I look at it.<br />
Figure it must be wrong.<br />
It says $30. <br />
That's not a typo. <br />
Thirty.<br />
<br />
Just to be sure there are even a couple other similar ones, same price. <br />
<br />
I about danced my way to the register and bought that puppy. I figure even if it only lasts a year we more than got our moneys worth. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It was a good trip. Now for the real fun- installation!Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-74218087371240121082012-04-18T11:19:00.000-07:002012-12-15T10:33:02.993-08:00Cabinet Paint Reveal!<p>So after 3 <strike>poorly documented</strike> days of work, we put our kitchen back together. This project was my birthday present and I am THRILLED with how it came out. Looking at the before pictures just blows my mind. Here we go!</p> <p>The last step before being done done was to add the new hardware. Thecabinets previously had none at all, so we had to drill the holes for the new ones. I choose a brushed nickel pull with some lttle cutouts for some visual interest</p> <p>.</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCM__lhtQ88gKQeAHNpw0Nx8YhAB50whJWGRPtd73DSsrJjrkVl06isdHjiC3vxJac4Cbg_tuLhKuY4mEInYuLW4czK1rIwywIGywBqu48po3imbX8MkmmikLDyvb5QYsqa8ajwu-JUXCq/s1600-h/IMG_0281%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="IMG_0281" border="0" alt="IMG_0281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGHdA2tF_yG-vhp2rjFIk2yXjDjkpxnpTeLOEU6Ox3USqBoSpkzFGH-eMSf5M-C-wBbIS4DxEJm3VtZxEX1r3h7sPn8WgJ-gwiF5LBftMogFlRuVM0gIN1ZldJzue1YDcxD25c1KJns5bx/?imgmax=800" width="1028" height="772"></a> </p> <p> </p> <p>We added them to all the drawers, and all the doors except for the ones above the stove. We have always wanted to retro fit in a microwave hood, which would mean those doors would have to go, so I didn’t bother adding the pulls.</p> <p>It was fairly straightforward. Almost too easy….since the Mr got so into a groove that he was doing all the doors so fast he drilled 3 of them on the WRONG SIDE. Like, right next to a hinge a didn’t notice, lol.</p> <p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs-57DQN9_RRwws463XA-l73C5y0kIc7RgtKpjTzUsZWJlG9nATn-RCzx4f0rmU05DGDJFbHqH90TZ7dlB1AdwKaKe-rM37EJ4rgRKT_mZUEucKfMBg-bSTrx3HrHz58K9p0MQ_OEN2sKR/s1600-h/IMG_0279%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="IMG_0279" border="0" alt="IMG_0279" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmqVnNUAbVGjSYb9ZU1c8tfXqh0tmtliHDmVoClElK8qxPo_agaAHzH5bD8Ri0KTP05lxndx_3iivTULWPxs4u_xIGiM6_ceBbkikItlXZPqaO7W3Um7OSoapWRracsrPM9h2QdmblkHr1/?imgmax=800" width="1028" height="772"></a> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Now, the painting project was officially DONE!</p> <p> </p> <p>Again, the before:</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF7Xcj_tJxl22qI3YGSp-s_XoZ4bZ5xuyr8B2cpst079WGNPL13dlBXmuR9n3VKj4p73SGbAFPeCUZtzdwp_iiwVe_hebxuNx3b3SNlU60ru0L0kvkvYBHkCQ4qVKGT6t36ely3RBvxEGU/s1600-h/IMG_0271%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="IMG_0271" border="0" alt="IMG_0271" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-6Bwl006GFCs/UMzCUWdjWcI/AAAAAAAAAos/4d6PqSiBb84/IMG_0271_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="1028" height="772"></a> </p> <p>Now the AFTER!</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-I0EHJolw7k0/UMzCUjKRhHI/AAAAAAAAAo0/RTGMAZ6dVXY/s1600-h/IMG_0287%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px" title="IMG_0287" border="0" alt="IMG_0287" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-KWqmsf85Vb4/UMzCVIE3PLI/AAAAAAAAAo8/qvRWSF37n0E/IMG_0287_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="1028" height="772"></a> </p> <p>BAM! <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-01acQVjY_8k/UMy7aGTWOSI/AAAAAAAAAnM/MJhY5OCp68I/s1600-h/IMG_0277%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0277" border="0" height="772" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-U5k4sy-Qwgo/UMy7a7RESxI/AAAAAAAAAnU/5623vrruPRQ/IMG_0277_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="IMG_0277" width="1028" /></a><br />
<br />
All should have been right in the world. The glorious smooth finish should have been having me dance and sing with happiness and joy. Alas, it was not to be. <br />
<br />
See, by deciding he needed the fanciest sprayer they sell at Home Depot, Mr had gotten one that has a pump and a very long hose. Why is that a problem? It takes half a gallon of paint to get the thing to start spraying. Which meant 1 coat of primer on the backs of the doors took an ENTIRE GALLON of primer. No bueno. <br />
This sprayer was supposed to be used in a 5 gallon bucket, where you had a long way to go in the can. We did not. It was a disaster. After much hemming and hawing <strike>I told him</strike> we executive decided the sprayer had to go. If <a href="http://younghouselove.com/" target="_blank">John & Sherry</a> can do it with a brush and roller, so can we! <br />
This was all good until the next morning when we went to flip over the doors. <br />
(For those of you wondering about the cabinet boxes, I had primed those by hand in no time flat, rather uneventfully.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfJ219tfHhxtClLRP3IAb1xOX_7C73fsPBLPrNYExzs99XJuvClTJqfgxS3-B5RHpZIIikcCTCNnPkfy-fp3rxG0fIpZ23f3zc38mvUpqdFHv57Jp0S0-C8-kYwtSLc9Qj4zy_GXRhegig/s1600-h/IMG_0274%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0274" border="0" height="772" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRR7ldCWU9hmZ8sYY78UShGczHcVoI4rRu2-JtlGTa6bnM2IkLexVln2kx3NsjPPNuB7K0fIXYgX5gFPmTro-_T4LrR4w5mpCjLf6pScjx5g4EkCGjGGNTCpJekm_CrV3AJiqJ4Yrlyfe5/?imgmax=800" style="border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="IMG_0274" width="1028" /></a> <br />
<br />
SO! Saturday morning was here and we went to flip the doors. For those of you who aren’t big painters, here's the thing. Primer is sticky. That’s its job. To make paint stick to it. Imagine with me if you will, a cocoon of plastic tarping making a little room which had been sprayed with copious amounts of primer. As soon as you walked in your feet stick to the covered-in-overspray ground.<br />
It was rather unpleasant, but carry on we must. We flipped the doors over and spent the day priming the fronts. <br />
The trouble came when it was then time to flip them back over for paint. Remember our fancy lifters from part 1, soda cans and Solo cups? Well the primer had done its job and they were all stuck to the primed back of the doors. Like, we had to pull them off which left rings of bare wood on all the doors. I.was.PISSED. My poor mister got a full on temper tantrum directed at him for his decision to use a “stupid mother effing expensive damn sprayer” when I wanted to do it by hand in the first place. I’m not proud of it.<br />
<br />
We soldiered on. We had to do a light sanding and re-prime the spots that were damaged and wait for it to dry again. We also had to replace all the plastic that was under the cabinets with fresh un-sticky stuff so we had somewhere to lay the doors that wouldn't cause the same problem again.<br />
<br />
Then came the paint. We went with the same paint <a href="http://www.younghouselove.com/2012/01/how-to-paint-your-cabinets-aka-hallelujah/" target="_blank">John & Sherry</a> used. Seriously, don’t take my post as a tutorial. I’m not a good teacher. Just read theirs. We just tried to do everything they said to do.<br />
Just like the primer, the paint went on the boxes smooth as butter in no time flat. If we didn’t have doors this would have been the easiest project ever.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-lyrn5Sqlajw/UMy7c26uj9I/AAAAAAAAAns/rC6bQ22Q3QA/s1600-h/IMG_0273%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0273" border="0" height="772" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgjgpYbh_-U7sXHnjtuGEjsw_1rOqt7DB09tfJoHBQ62z6vfxZGTVi5Hnys_wMt5D80yHK6R-sg91ZkdS1tR3w9lTtXx1ZJ45J3oYwgzfy1Palhf-WHcVeDTSvJbFgk7ZC6klV5xT4sD2I/?imgmax=800" style="border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="IMG_0273" width="1028" /></a> <br />
The doors were tedious, but we got it done. It was a whole lot of roll, brush, dry. Over and over again. <br />
<br />
Now we are ready for the fun part….the reveal!Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-21579678663422298482012-04-16T10:14:00.000-07:002012-12-15T10:05:33.213-08:00Cabinet Painting, Part 1<br />
So, the weekend was finally here. The Mr and I had both taken Monday off work so we could rock this project out with our full concentration. In case you have forgotten, here is what we started with (after heavy cleaning and light decorating)<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Xba65ChwD0Y/UMywHefhj_I/AAAAAAAAAmA/8usiL7HNAqw/s1600-h/IMG_0271%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0271" border="0" height="534" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWRGmArK9SrrwKCnnetwn43I175BDuF6FgIHdOZQp7RuSHYpfKbncfn7J1fA-aiJfMoCFq1AbHjtqKx5rIjDSGJq-IAJ1RaBIJ7NeHt6Cv-p8QSLoFiXCAIBdtayMmB6O1mjSmmliIsty-/?imgmax=800" style="border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="IMG_0271" width="710" /></a><br />
<br />
This is what we worked with for the fist year and a half of living here. Perfectly functional, but not so pretty. So, we made the decision to paint the cabinets. They were in great shape (the house was only built in 2006 people) plus we are super cheap so it was a go. We had actually talked about it since we first got the house but knowing what a huge project it was just kept putting it off. That is until my idols, the Brand and Angelina of blogging themselves <a href="http://younghouselove.com/" target="_blank">John & Sherry</a> did their kitchen cabinets. then I was all….its on.<br />
So! By the time Clint got home from work Friday I had already removed all of the door and hinges from the kitchen.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPv5-zmd-IoJ95HsyolzXC_oNgo3NrtfFpoD3d4Y54B4_euiEnM4Ty1WSV6XTQ7bIn1oOri3YvKverkjAejbnslKKwPyhjnoRpZ0zOq4BicVEdFqf1ngg42iuLBClIUqOUmqIUQsJ0IQay/s1600-h/IMG_0272%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0272" border="0" height="513" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXn2rFgtO76915qpn3RkYOKfCoJEMnxzO7lNYoRH203fi97xjht70Tkgmz6qdDFxJhKpeH9PO-wDHW5m3mUSPLIS4XuuLluk_xk3A79uV7UdfnPkBOlZQE_k2ILYcMHtAl3JTTBWI2clmD/?imgmax=800" style="border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="IMG_0272" width="683" /></a> <br />
<br />
Which I promptly took no pictures of. But trust me, its alot of doors.<br />
<br />
Then we spent far too many hours cleaning, sanding and deglossing all the surfaces. Thank baby Jesus for deglosser. We only had to do a light sanding because of it. It made the job much, much easier. Now on to paint!<br />
<br />
So the Mr, being the gadget-o-phile he is decided we should buy a paint sprayer for the job. He also decided we needed the heavy duty professional kind that sucks the paint right out the the can (no pouring!)<br />
After taking all the doors down, I began to set up the <strike>Dexter kill room</strike> paint booth in our garage. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRogkHfKHb_MW_6i1Ojr15LvAeG3d3YEmm2d6h-8-MMSR59CPE3Ju-ZS-N9Fzp62s2IEToYGXBFgiyi1qClR2-d2-f38xJ80KEv19m_B0Qjic4HUBZtxeWWclZa92I0yApkIxJA6GZAtEB/s1600-h/IMG_0276%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0276" border="0" height="513" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh65sw_tNNw1F41DMpK9g3UtjPgtKqfAC3Pq-OGeHNUYyBE3IjmQ3JMQzfc88sO7e0f8OGp4be3zHuTKrh9OVFXyNGqRxidsY4j_b44Fp8cc_t6vB8n8i06yV8qHFJmT3gp6EMKHJ5MhZ8m/?imgmax=800" style="border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="IMG_0276" width="683" /></a> <br />
<br />
Notice our very professional door lifters, empty soda cans and beer pong cups. What you see there is about half the doors. The ground was also covered in them on the other side of the tables. <br />
So, Mr fires up his sprayer and starts getting his prime on.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVEnCCcPRKyKzKGK8dbburXotWdXUO2ZHn7S4ay8EKnVH9m6KpILYsHZhX1B-y5Wrmls0nJ13u9HpTc5ic5yv4aiKqkvxAyTkSunkwj8x4A_wSuGNWjcLyQ14ImQpfW0P7YQhIfrMYDEnE/s1600-h/IMG_0278%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0278" border="0" height="537" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-RNoWnr_ys3o/UMywKQ7tPMI/AAAAAAAAAm4/Ngn5okqBCmA/IMG_0278_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border: 0px currentColor; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="IMG_0278" width="713" /></a> <br />
Looks like its going great, right?? <br />
<br />
Wrong. <br />
<br />

So we have had this end table since…..forever. It was a hand-me-down from a friend who got it as a hand me down. It has sat in our living room holding a laptop for years. We really like that the drawer is on the shallow side so you can open it from the couch easier. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6UI51bMcsbbGiMUzFuHc8G5tcx9U7yhWodGzUYGu2iWcPnHkd883xGx7wCZBcnjfFC1URSwHpJhhBoMj8_61FTlBiWbpQMWydPIjBAl34K0ej8PLpLwXTqRUzotDgFuc-6-EfFxYtQabD/s1600-h/IMG_0246%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0246" border="0" height="360" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Bc3h_eW7yls/T1O2F80Xn8I/AAAAAAAAAgw/C35ETYMh7PE/IMG_0246_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_0246" width="458" /></a><br />
It has seen better days.<br />
<br />
Up until now though, it always sat hidden between a wall and the couch, so I didn’t really care too much about how it looked.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-QyclcIuK9Po/T1O2GBP3_uI/AAAAAAAAAg4/QyCszvd9n7o/s1600-h/IMG_0790%25255B1%25255D%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0790[1]" border="0" height="467" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdfl-zlor5pfTBHRzPCL4HbW8oozV2lbQrLiWGSX4zncB3FtMCujP7XgDaN0cvIFmK8lZNpWWhTfGB1Qb-EoUpDgAxBbYCOKqRNXZa0aQhLcxETAgoWdqdO5AEJZMdAyvchziPHhDC-DbS/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_0790[1]" width="585" /></a><br />
<br />
So, in plans to get a new sectional couch, this table was now going to be front and center so it needed some attention. <br />
I decided that I only wanted to repaint the top <strike>because I’m lazy</strike> to give it some contrast.<br />
After sanding , wood filling, primer, paint and polyurethane, a new knob and scrubbing down the legs and sides-<br />
<br />

It’s not perfect, there are still a ton of bare areas on the legs- but for now I love it. Maybe someday I will do the rest of it black, who knows.<br />
Here is a shot of the whole room with the new couch and all (after I took off the fake staging props on the table, lol.<br />

I am so in love with that new couch it’s not even funny. Partially because I got such a sweet deal on it (good price, sale day, reselling old furniture).<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Ohh ya, she was a beaut.<br />
<br />
So we started out with the room in a different layout for the first year. The TV was perpendicular to the windows, which put the chairs midway between the windows and that about took up all the room. It worked great because it left a lot of open space for when we would play the Kinect. <br />
Except we NEVER play the Kinect. I got it for Clint for his birthday 2010. We played it for like a week, and there it sits.<br />
<br />
So for Christmas 2011, we decided to get each other gifts that weren’t “things”. He has always wanted to work on his man cave. In a year all we had done was put in our extra furniture and throw posters on the wall. Well we did buy 2 shelves from Ikea.<br />
<br />
This is the only picture I have of the room from before, sorry.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgxIsZGvFyOn089Nli1uJkOE1Sy1DdCQZcJtoNjOcrWGj6i2T0M-nN8thplfORCPXzcQYeKgn2Lkjt-fZcKPFWYsqzCcgaGNKY4InAeHtPZ6JAs1G54wax-ZD1hbjmt46irU0qzZKTKiHH/s1600-h/IMG_00684.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0068" border="0" height="350" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuxjbM5iPHkAE95Szc8LZiipM85KknZycpKf5bwbcHMW_YHiMrvlT1bwZyHcYPCEyiOlVyEzmPrx3pSvzCpOmX23sMCTY9T9ppTqsWHUKqTRszde-72WBkWBMc6bCH81rWcpLeFkKZPYsw/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_0068" width="446" /></a><br />
<br />
Obviously you can’t see the other side of the room with the massive TV.<br />
So for his Christmas present I painted the room for him. Maybe these pictures don’t do it justice but it is a BIG room. <br />
I first primed and painted all the baseboard and trim in the room bright white, like we are doing downstairs.<br />
Then the weekend came and I got to the daunting task of painting the whole effing room by myself while Clint played video games to keep me company. By the last wall I was about crazy and Clint did the ceiling trim line for me.<br />
While we had everything off the walls and the furniture moved Clint decided he wanted to try out a new furniture placement with the chair backs to the window and the TV on the wall next to the entrance (where I am sitting as I take the photo above).<br />
We also sold an old loveseat and bought him a desk for the newly freed up space on the other side of the room.<br />
Here he is in all his panorama-photo glory:<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGQguNCJGMrVmKxXZwz9JCwT8gxx_Y5wHukGvP7xcRgg9rCrfr8Dp46t6zsdjNC7dXYqQY8rL3JC5T8W9LoUORpKCptUthqOUPk0zxuaFQ0Xq86oMInNAxcXO8NbtyW69KP-Gu8GRoXeKO/s1600-h/STA_0153-Stitch5.jpg"><img alt="STA_0153 Stitch" border="0" height="349" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUgqgd264_DkKeoutuSqOofFRn3PezPDwi70nR5M5p5gK7pmwa47jPeDlFAm4dh1-o57XyButvbD5_Sqp7sjL9kBCa8dHqSzVsQiMbPTNOumjt1ZGDMb3Js9wWoefNQzczgefUBqBJ1nlL/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="STA_0153 Stitch" width="940" /></a><br />
Err… scratch that. Up to this point of the post I wrote in mid January. I promptly saved a draft and forgot about it.<br />
Well, this weekend in the process of getting a new living room couch, we did some furniture shuffling and the room has done a little changing again.<br />
So here it is from another angle, behind the desk (and the Mr.'s super tall new chair)<br />

Ya, my panorama didn’t paste together as well this time.<br />
Clearly I didn’t dress it up. It’s a man cave. It’s the room I lovingly refer to as “the room where we keep all the crap I don’t want to look at. There are at least 20 dragons in the room. Not exactly my favorite décor choice.<br />
<br />
Well, in a long winded post that took me 2 months to write, there it is. My husbands man cave. Where he happily goes and plays loud games that I don’t have to see or hear. I think I am starting to catch up to my age.<br />
<br />
I have always been an “old soul”. I did everything much younger than most, and I behaved and thought like someone much older than myself. I’m sure it started because my siblings are 9 and 12 years older than me, so I was mostly exposed to people older than myself.<br />
<br />
I was always a few years ahead in school. I had my ‘rebellious’ stage of drinking and promiscuity in the 8th grade. I graduated at 16. I moved out on my own at 17. My best friend for the last 4 years was over 20 years older than me. I bought a house at 24. <br />
<br />
I am about to turn 26, but have been a responsible on-my-own adult for almost 10 years.<br />
<br />
I have always been ok and happy about that. It’s just me.<br />
<br />
I think it’s starting to catch up to me. I find myself more and more now missing the feeling of being ‘young’. I want to go out, I want to dance and sometimes I even want to drink. I want to be able to act 26, but now I don’t have those kinds of friends. I am one of the very few people I know that doesn’t have young kids. My whole life I was always the first one of my age to do things. Now I’m looking at starting a family in my 30’s, when all my friends will have kids old enough to take care of themselves.<br />
<br />
When I hang out with my friends now, I find that we spend more time saying “remember when?” than we do making new memories. <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
It just feels weird. I’m not used to it and I wanted to vent. I just heard a song that reminded me of the time when I used to be wild and care-free and it made me miss it more than usual.<br />

He is also responsible for the beer and chewing tobacco, neither of which the Mr or I partake in.</p> <p> </p> <p>Anywho- I had to sand down the top 50 million times to try and smooth out the texture, add in support screws to all the legs, cut a new bottom shelf out of plywood, prime and paint the whole thing.</p> <p>It was a pretty easy project I did over the weekend in between other stuff. </p> <p>Here it is all done up and back in it’s natural habitat:</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTAlmKHsYZFBIKmOq2IouRPXPvC0ivv5x9GzjeUE_cTpWg0ILT2ZHJePgwGMRXSqYSW6BDdnWRClt-9-4AvkjjBW8wT9m9l549kZti_bCfpEXBLD_vAbH8Ipg9QsJBzdeJUnO-lQwU6Hsd/s1600-h/IMG_0152%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0152" border="0" alt="IMG_0152" align="right" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-DC-XqEtP-h8/TyIfx8AmQQI/AAAAAAAAAeo/T9NUCWL2_G4/IMG_0152_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="497" height="407"></a></p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVDr8DFHl968Ngw-KXz1A4r6EfX2mxDuJbRQibSDYIIoNkofBUuLTrt5QsoXhfrT9EcEXyYcwfesOlNY7d98QwPHo90cv7sNVK5rJumdT3CmveGS4aePDEGWbR1AxdvuhVx1h6P8F_T4il/s1600-h/IMG_0151%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0151" border="0" alt="IMG_0151" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqQZcDcRC6HBZ46obT3VwLw4kbWZRLPK2jg6AlJUmvz_CqwplUMyxpwxWrYUDeIiZRsJUEwfoQHx2n5b-DuIhmxh32TyRDElnTMuInSUBS_tctgVXm9REDLfapAIrt1AuygSv8Wu-tN8Cl/?imgmax=800" width="502" height="402"></a></p> <p> </p> <p>It is now right next to his <strike>god awful ugly disgusting</strike> favorite leather recliner that he sits in when he is up there. It holds controllers, the battery charger, our modem and his game cheater book.</p> <p>It’s not the most glamorous makeover ever, but it made him happy and it was totally free to do.</p> <p> </p> <p>For those of you who haven’t dug through my archives, I actually re did some other furniture before. The smoke detector going off while you are in the shower. You know what’s worse? When your detectors are wired together so all <strong><em>Seven</em></strong> of the smoke detectors go off at the same time. They also can’t be turned off until it detects clean air.</p> <p> </p> <p>Now, I know they are great for protection and I am very glad they are there. But when you have a head full of shampoo and have just put on your fancy face scrub <strong><em>and there is no fire</em></strong>……its not the time.</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGEp-tq5JLKaC2iPbBMuusuapkId2JzHQHxhfw5wiYBUanx53k8bVw_uXSukmoT2P0zzto0MY3Uk9FqsR0ZE6pBGpw2Kxy-FMBGnbCoGLflFBJyFHFg_AIQqfN5ZBjEJxu5crNlBFkx4hQ/s1600-h/IMG_0147%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0147" border="0" alt="IMG_0147" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ1qO5r1PaR-em3ijksHjKtu0WgXZrZRb4NNEBFz7pZiQ18YgpHI2iFZssilCBHUaru1aKteTSIygVgHYOjba0Ylny8cQmdXPWHGXDn6OS1k4qcCqMBNQWJNEAFvKq7sPdZtn25O_64ED8/?imgmax=800" width="263" height="361"></a></p> <p>See, the detector is right outside the bathroom door in our bedroom. Apparently (according to the Mr) the sensor must be dirty and it detected the steam as smoke. </p> <p>I wish I had a hilarious action shot of me jumping out of the shower dripping wet and fanning the detector to get it to stop, but I guess you’ll have to use your imagination.</p> <p>Anyone ever have a smoke detector mishap?</p> Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-56676180190229904462012-01-23T08:37:00.000-08:002012-01-23T08:37:42.784-08:00Office FunThe ways I amuse myself at my office job- <br />

When a telemarketer calls and asks for the owner, give them the weirdest most random name you can think of. <br />

Nope, still weird. That dog is just not photogenic.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Well, to at least keep this post semi house related I shall share an awesome tip I learned this weekend.<br />
<br />
<br />
If your paintbrushes are all hard and caked with paint, put them in a saucepan of hot vinegar. Soak for 1 hour, then simmer for 10 minutes. Wash with soapy water and the old paint will come off and your bristles will be soft again. YAY! <br />
<br />

<br />
The master bathroom.<br />

<br />
We have done quite a bit in here, update wise. Let's she how she rolled on our first walk through, eh?<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC-RioNh6BIAxpFXpzBtFYhEEab1h5p6vMPL2pHmivSc0YS2ZSoC24vgjquBqPvzHsRQmwzFa6s8XUHmNMwS6Sk_8HahFJS0VcSDskTETHcw8jIscmAPBYUzJNIf9Kyf17J_cp2j9X9IeJ/s1600/IMG_0671.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="298" nfa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC-RioNh6BIAxpFXpzBtFYhEEab1h5p6vMPL2pHmivSc0YS2ZSoC24vgjquBqPvzHsRQmwzFa6s8XUHmNMwS6Sk_8HahFJS0VcSDskTETHcw8jIscmAPBYUzJNIf9Kyf17J_cp2j9X9IeJ/s400/IMG_0671.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Thar she blows</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
We went bold with our color choice in this room since it is small and only we use it, so if it looks bad we didn't really care.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnfo-0Ie6b72RfSOSzekuSlG13U3bPNwYBeIxe1YlG40gNSpH8m6OhGxuQLDLXBSKZ8ViZiDq4ddl25WKgQaeTQDocl4aAjxKByPztagstXMKdixlgvGnpaYl-q5GN8rr0Dr870u0zek5l/s1600/IMG_0106.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" nfa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnfo-0Ie6b72RfSOSzekuSlG13U3bPNwYBeIxe1YlG40gNSpH8m6OhGxuQLDLXBSKZ8ViZiDq4ddl25WKgQaeTQDocl4aAjxKByPztagstXMKdixlgvGnpaYl-q5GN8rr0Dr870u0zek5l/s320/IMG_0106.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
But I totally love it. Whenever someone comes over I take them in there to look at the color.<br />
<br />
Here's a dirty little secret though- the paint job SUUUUUUUCCKKKS. This was the first room we painted in the house, it's semi gloss paint and we didn't prime. It looks horrible when you really look close. But it would take priming over it and then re-coating to fix so it's not going anywhere for awhile. <br />
<br />
Live and Learn!<br />
<br />
Anywho, lets look around more.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
This second picture is taken from standing inside the little toilet-alcove room, which is why none of the pictures show a toilet in the bathroom. We have one in there, I swear.<br />
<br />
<br />
So let's do the checklist of what we have done, shall we?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdwAgQSTUmlOlEnyOXcIU6gcpRBNVqeZYWj3G66qivPVATyNlLS59uNcjmNlOH9NZ5nTqePNGDIYE3lQzGsVcX4vwe1hQx1CI_jdwZJsdYcSA8tzqEEAoW3XYnfLf6B9dTBsb60cN1nTZG/s1600/IMG_0096.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" nfa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdwAgQSTUmlOlEnyOXcIU6gcpRBNVqeZYWj3G66qivPVATyNlLS59uNcjmNlOH9NZ5nTqePNGDIYE3lQzGsVcX4vwe1hQx1CI_jdwZJsdYcSA8tzqEEAoW3XYnfLf6B9dTBsb60cN1nTZG/s400/IMG_0096.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<ol>
<li>Painted the room peacock blue</li>
<li>Painted the builder orangey-oak vanity in light gray and added hardware</li>
<li>Installed the curved shower rod (loooooove)</li>
<li>Added the stainess shelves/towel racks</li>
<li>Installed a new toilet in the secret room (its right inside the entrance to the right, you can see the door frame in the picture above)</li>
<li>Added a full length mirror behind the door (which you can see me in in the picture about the color)</li>
</ol>
<br />
There is more to do of course, but this is on the back burner for awhile. Sorry for the terrible pics, my camera did not agree with the light fixture in there and I don't know how to change the white balance-ISO-aperature-blah blah stuff on it.<br />
<br />
Can we all just agree how awesome this poster is?<br />

It's big (20x30). I totally, totally love it. So much so I couldn't wait to get a frame and pinned it up on the wall naked as soon as I got it :)<br />
<br />
<br />
So, you have any ideas for me on doing more with the space?Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-17591297061003700632012-01-20T05:07:00.000-08:002012-01-20T05:07:00.091-08:00StatsDude:<br />
<br />
To all my fellow bloggers out there- are you totally obsessed with your stats like I am? I go on there all the time and see where people are from, how many views I have, what time they are....I find it fascinating.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JiqejT47kzw/Txg_bj8Nv_I/AAAAAAAAAck/e2B49xamrgU/s1600/Capture.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="176" nfa="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JiqejT47kzw/Txg_bj8Nv_I/AAAAAAAAAck/e2B49xamrgU/s320/Capture.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Granted, my blog is tiny and getting 10 views a day is big for me. But this morning seeing that Italy had turned green just made me giddy. Someone in Italy is reading my nonsense? <br />
<br />
I love it. Thank you. Please come back. Click lots.Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-52076365852143951272012-01-19T05:17:00.000-08:002012-01-19T05:17:00.905-08:00Clint's BirthdayFor Clint's 27th birthday, I planned a most excellent adventure (much better than <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096928/">Bill and Ted's</a>) <br />
<br />
Unbeknownst to me, we have been living in the vicinity of an unbelievable place.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://kirshner.org/">Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Foundation</a> is an exotic animal sanctuary that rescues and rehabilitates injured or sick exotic animals that would otherwise be put down. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UVw_mvDY6WU/TxYlo70FsdI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/i6RhoMKEtXc/s1600/Capture.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UVw_mvDY6WU/TxYlo70FsdI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/i6RhoMKEtXc/s1600/Capture.JPG" /></a></div><br />
<br />
So, I made an appointment for a private tour and surprised Clint for his birthday. (However, he knew where we were going as soon as we turned off the main road- turns out he had installed the alarm in their offices and knew where it was. Bummer)<br />
<br />
But never the less, we had the most amazing time. Our guide was a really nice guy with a ridiculously awesome British accent who took us around telling us all about each animal. It was practically magical. <br />
<br />
Unfortunately all we had was cell phones so the pictures aren't of the best quality and it was hard to get a good picture through 2 chain link fences, but it is what it is.<br />
<br />

All the people there are 100% volunteers and they do such good things. They operate completely on donations.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">When we walked out of this place I honest to god had the thought of wanting to go rob a bank just to give them money. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As soon as we get out of debt I plan to send them money every month. Someday we want to sponsor an animal.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<br />
White paint. <br />
<br />
Never in my life did I imagine that I would be married, own a home, and spend a fair amount of time smiling like a fool at my baseboards.<br />
<br />
We have finally been painting the main areas of the house. Its a long slow process but it looks SO GOOD!<br />
<br />
It's a hard thing to translate to pictures. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7TqfItKzJcdJ6x__he0LNwk_ECeFwOfAVqfnbA9oGX2VmhFtA1yeMjjdJuds6MNXjekpM2fcOum_5EGDJbhb_Pwebbm2SgOynBmFqCqF6F3YcewjMnZU8NxAKmOnjy1KnaHbq4-pmfSdy/s1600/IMG_0090.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" kba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7TqfItKzJcdJ6x__he0LNwk_ECeFwOfAVqfnbA9oGX2VmhFtA1yeMjjdJuds6MNXjekpM2fcOum_5EGDJbhb_Pwebbm2SgOynBmFqCqF6F3YcewjMnZU8NxAKmOnjy1KnaHbq4-pmfSdy/s320/IMG_0090.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
This is a good indication of the three colors in our main great room area right now. <br />
<br />
Far left is the beigey off white that was on every single surface of the house when we got it. We are painting all the doors and trim bright white.<br />
<br />
The middle trim color is the bright white (Glidden off-the-shelf base 2, I believe).<br />
<br />
The far right color is Olympic's Thin Ice. It is a super-duper light gray-blue. Very neutral and just enough to make the white really pop.<br />
<br />
<br />
So as of now the house is kind of mis-matched. <br />
All the baseboards and door trim (less a small area behind the turtle tank) are bright white. <br />
Half of the walls in the room are Thin Ice. <br />
3 out of 6 doors are bright white. <br />
<br />
The mis-match drive me nuts, but hey, what can I do? Gotta work all day to pay for paint, ya know.<br />
<br />
<br />

I will try and go room by room as they get to a (for now) finished point. <br />
<br />
Lets start with the kitchen, shall we? (No, of course it's not because it was the cleanest room in the house when I happen to grab the camera.....)<br />
<br />
Here is what our kitchen looked like on the day we first toured the house:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8cfOHRsd_SS0kz67P5QiF8vKT08OGam1qHBagssEigfxjYidl0ITMBVaXNd4OWb5kZbk1g0cnSuOYS9bAlNFClUkLhO-57ZeCXcNT92BBRYm3_eS55LIrhg0AOM8HH0Uu5eRML1kFfkNX/s1600/IMG_0663.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="298" kba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8cfOHRsd_SS0kz67P5QiF8vKT08OGam1qHBagssEigfxjYidl0ITMBVaXNd4OWb5kZbk1g0cnSuOYS9bAlNFClUkLhO-57ZeCXcNT92BBRYm3_eS55LIrhg0AOM8HH0Uu5eRML1kFfkNX/s400/IMG_0663.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ya. For reals.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
The previous owners were forclosed on and evicted by the sheriffs, so there was STUFF everywhere all over the house. *Fun Fact: if you look close at the header pic of the house, the eviction notice is taped in the window*<br />
<br />
Can we just take a minute here to take note of the dishwasher? This was the original dishwasher that came with the house, which was built 5 years before. for 5 YEARS these people didn't take the blue plastic covering off the front of their dishwasher. .........really?......REALLY? Maybe I'm just OCD but that about drove me batty. So much so that I actually ripped it off during our first tour, lol. The realtor was not pleased.<br />
<br />
Another lovely feature that this picture doesn't capture is GREASE. An inch thick on all the surfaces of the room. GROSS. It took me 2 days and a lot of chemicals to make that place even close to usable.<br />
<br />
Anyway, not the point. We're here to see the changes <strike>we </strike>I have made.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGsXP4oD9TBeSQdFwDAv9dBM5LW0bbEy8C6IWXCMFNp4kW1miCQTIIpBXZkb7BqxbHkv9THvMcGV2ooAITU5r7rQGtCPwH2uHV4rL8vEqTYjc6BJ-momDw770rwcadSebQ0VJ_KWQv6VM2/s1600/IMG_0091.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" kba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGsXP4oD9TBeSQdFwDAv9dBM5LW0bbEy8C6IWXCMFNp4kW1miCQTIIpBXZkb7BqxbHkv9THvMcGV2ooAITU5r7rQGtCPwH2uHV4rL8vEqTYjc6BJ-momDw770rwcadSebQ0VJ_KWQv6VM2/s400/IMG_0091.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Different angle, my bad. It was 5:30am.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
<br />
1. You can't see it in the before, but that gargantuan light fixture was the same color as the cabinets. Clint took it down and I painted that sucker with the paint match to the ceiling. Blend, big girl, blend.<br />
<br />
2. The nasty, gross, sticky, disgusting vent hood was taken down ripped apart, scrubbed, steam stripped and painted black. So much better.<br />
<br />
3. We got a new dishwasher for Christmas 2010. I prefer all black appliances over stainless. <br />
<br />
4 The back splash wall and window wall were painted with a dark gray can of oops paint from Home Depot. Holla for $7 gallon of Semi-Gloss!<br />
<br />
5. I have to point out that plant in the window I nurtured from a bulb to grow so beautifully. I have no green thumb so this is a big deal. (Don't mind the dirty dishes next to the sink).<br />
<br />
6. All the carnival glass on top of the cabinets was Clint's grandmas. Love. Too bad its filled with lead and is only for looking not using.<br />
<br />
7. Fun fact? The white spots all over the floor mat are flour from my first ever time making Christmas cookies. I made 13 dozen. It was a mess. Plus I burnt my hand pretty bad.<br />
<br />
<br />
So....there it is for now! The still-to-do-someday list stands at: <br />
<br />
<ul><li>Paint the cabinets crisp white and add brushed nickel hardware</li>
<li>Replace the awful horrible tile counter tops with solid surface</li>
<li>Get a new stove when this one dies</li>
<li>Soooooomeday put in continuous hardwoods through the entire bottom floor</li>
</ul><br />
So that's that for now. Anyone else do super cheap but super awesome upgrades after moving in? Tell me all about it!Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-84323999991555786872012-01-16T10:14:00.001-08:002012-01-16T10:14:49.436-08:00Updates to come!Well, I know I suck at blogging, but I promise to work on it! <br />
<br />
We have done tons of work on the house and I just need to take pictures and I will start posting soon. I swear!Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-33896246712548392182011-12-16T11:00:00.000-08:002011-12-16T11:00:16.170-08:00HeartbreakI got dumped recently.<br />
<br />
No, not by my new husband but by my best friend. I was friend-dumped. Guess what? It hurts too. A lot.<br />
<br />
There was no major fight, no epic blowout, not even a slow drifting away. After 2 weeks of silence I got am email that said we were no longer going to be friends.<br />
<br />
I guess that sounds a little bitter and snarky and I don't mean it to be. There was a third party that loomed ever-present in our friendship and finally became too much work to handle keeping the third party appeased. That's what the email said.<br />
<br />
And I totally understand. It WAS a lot of work to constantly keep the balance <em>just right</em> so that we could do things together without starting 'drama'. It's exhausting, and silly for adults. But it was the way it was and there was no way around it.<br />
<br />
That's not the point here. I'm here because I need to vent my heartbreak. It's been a long time since I have been dumped. <br />
<br />
I haven't felt that gut wrenching pain in your chest that rises up when something reminds you of that person.<br />
<br />
I haven't had the sadness fill your mind when you see happy pictures of times past.<br />
<br />
It hurts, and I don't know what to about it. I don't have an excess of girlfriends so my poor husband has had to pick up the slack of losing her. <br />
<br />
I feel very alone and without closure I guess. <br />
<br />
After it happened, I acted out a bit and handled some situations in ways I probably shouldn't have. But its worse because I can't explain it to her. I felt I didn't have another option, but from the other point of view it seems worse I suppose. <br />
<br />
I hate not knowing how she feels. I hate not being able to call, text or email when something funny or interesting happens. <br />
<br />
I hate that I can't say anything about things I find out that happened to her. <br />
<br />
It's all a mess. I just needed to get these feelings out, you know? <br />
<br />
I guess now I just need to move forward and try to make new friends. Which I have no idea how to do anymore. I don't know.<br />
<br />
I worry that I have nothing to give someone else. I am insecure and I wonder if I was doing terrible things in our friendship and didn't realize. That really she was just sick of ME but didn't want to say that. <br />
<br />
I would rather know. I would always, always rather people tell me the truth so I can recognize what I did that was wrong and try to fix it.<br />
<br />
Anyone have any advise for me?Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-44458828636023473512011-09-30T15:25:00.000-07:002011-09-30T15:25:47.599-07:00An Identity ShiftWell, I have been married for 20 days now. But it really sunk in for me today. I got my new license and bank card in the mail. They were the last to arrive after my social security card and credit cards, but the are truly the most important.<br />
<br />
Now its for real. <br />
<br />
I had a very odd feeling taking the old license out and going to put the new one into my wallet. <br />
<br />
I have always known I would change my name and wanted to when I got married. I diligently practiced signing my new name and ordered knick knacks with our joined names emblazoned upon them. But man ohh man have I had a bit of a struggle with it now that its real.<br />
<br />
The first was when I was at the DMV and the man at the counter handed me back my old license with the dreaded hole punch through it. The one that basically means "Hey there, I'm a useless piece of plastic now!" All of a sudden I felt like I was losing a little piece of myself.<br />
<br />
Over the last 2 weeks at work I have had a hard time remembering to use my new name when signing for a package or leaving a voicemail. It just doesn't sound right yet. But then again, saying my old name doesn't sound right anymore either. I'm just stuck in limbo.<br />
<br />
But boy howdy, when I took my old license out I almost had a shortness of breath. I was really, really this new name now? I'm a wife, with my husband's name, and the old me is just going to slowly fade away? <br />
<br />
It was a sobering experience. Now my wallet is all full of my new name, and there are no cards left with my old. I know I will adjust quickly, but today I just needed a moment to reflect. I am SO happy to be the new me and share a last name with my husband. I'm a grown up wife now with a new name (and a hideous new picture)<br />

Anyone else out there have this feeling when they changed their name?Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-19407439070474869532011-08-08T14:00:00.000-07:002011-08-08T14:00:50.057-07:00Confession TimeHere's my embarassing confession for the day.<br />
<br />
Before I will put a piece of paper in the shredder under my desk, I practice signing my new name on the back, because I want to to feel natural by the time I'm using it for real.<br />
<br />
Ohh ya.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F0LjonBb30g/TkBHozojLTI/AAAAAAAAAQU/l2GRzdeQjQE/s1600/IMAG0227.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" naa="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F0LjonBb30g/TkBHozojLTI/AAAAAAAAAQU/l2GRzdeQjQE/s320/IMAG0227.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-17507705639772241272011-07-19T08:08:00.000-07:002011-07-19T08:08:15.114-07:00Why I feel old todayI have been beginning to see tiny little signs of things that make me feel/realize that I am no longer of the youngest generation. Yep, its true. I say "those damn kids" far to often and haven't been trendy in years.<br />
<br />
Now, I am sure that <strike>all</strike> some of you reading will roll your eyes and scoff at me for feeling old at the ripe age of 25, but I'm just saying-its gotta start somewhere.<br />
<br />
The first one to really hit me was when I was channel surfing and saw Full House pop up on the guide. I look over and realize- its on <em>Nick at Nite.</em> Jesus Christ. Full House? On Nick at Nite? Why don't you just put me in a home now. I watched Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie on Nick at Nite. Full House was prime-time viewing, my friend.<br />
<br />
But today I had another that spurred my need to share. I am starting to go through the wedding music and sort out what I want where. In one of the Greatest Hits of whenever CD's I was looking through, I saw the Macarena.<br />
<br />
And I couldn't remember how it went.<br />
<br />
Seriously. I saw the title, I know what it was and I couldn't find the sector of my brain that had that damn song burned into it for years. Is that amazing? I felt old.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://soultravelers3.typepad.com/.a/6a00e5502a9507883301538f9dafc9970b-500wi" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" m$="true" src="http://soultravelers3.typepad.com/.a/6a00e5502a9507883301538f9dafc9970b-500wi" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr>
</tbody></table>That was so totally me in grade school. We did the Macarena in PE for god sakes. Now I have replaced it in my brain with mortgage interest rates or something. <br />
<br />
Thank the lord I'm not some famous blogger who had to pay royalties to these guys for this post:<br />

<br />
<br />
Ohh, and <strong>You're Welcome </strong>for getting the Macarena stuck in your head all day. :)Shelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08003212633231990924noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603171966793442682.post-31421227564532237042011-07-06T08:46:00.000-07:002011-07-06T08:46:45.455-07:00Our adventure date.I love a good adventure. Who doesn't?<br />
<br />
So when it came time for the Mr and I to go see Transformers 3 I decided an adventure was in store. About an hour and a half away from us is an XD theater. The screen is about twice the size of a normal one and the seats all recline so you are really into it.<br />
<br />
We drove up there to see the movie and had a grand old time. The movie was good and it was nice to just be doing something different. We then had an ammmmmazing dinner at Cattleman's and topped off the evening with a walk on the sundial bridge.<br />
